Captain Frederick “Rick” Hamilton Hauck, Esteemed Astronaut and Navy Veteran, Passes Away After Battle with Parkinson's Disease at Age 84

The world is mourning the loss of Captain Frederick “Rick” Hamilton Hauck, who passed away on November 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 84 years old.

Rick, a decorated astronaut and Navy veteran, left behind an incredible legacy. He was a true pioneer in space exploration, having flown on multiple space shuttle missions, including the historic first flight with Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. His leadership in space was equally matched by his commitment to his family and community.

Born into a naval family on April 11, 1941, Rick spent much of his life in service to his country, first as a Navy aviator and later as a NASA astronaut. After his career at NASA, he became CEO of AXA Space, where he continued to make significant contributions to the aerospace industry.

Rick was also known for his deep love for his family, which included his wife, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He was an inspiration to those around him, a mentor to countless individuals in aviation and space exploration, and a humble and generous person who will be missed by all who knew him.

His family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of condolences, writing in a public statement, “We are so thankful for the outpouring of kindness and condolences. Rick was loved by so many, and we will always cherish the memories and lessons he shared with us.”
