Cy Jonathon Johnson, 42, Tragically Dies After Fatal Stabbing in Redding, CA
Cy Jonathon Johnson, a 42-year-old man, passed away on September 23, 2025, after being stabbed during a confrontation at a transitional housing facility in Redding, California.
The Shasta County Coroner identified Johnson as the victim, confirming his death occurred at the Stability Solutions housing facility where he had been residing. Johnson had been connected to the Anderson area and was serving a probation period at the time of the tragic incident.
According to police reports, the altercation began when Johnson was falsely accused by another resident, Matthew Jacob Riddle, of being a registered sex offender. This led to a physical confrontation that escalated when Riddle returned to the facility and fatally stabbed Johnson. Despite efforts by bystanders to assist, Johnson succumbed to his injuries at Mercy Medical Center shortly after the attack.
Riddle, who was also under probation, was arrested by authorities as he attempted to flee the scene and is now facing charges of murder and domestic violence. A postmortem examination has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
