Joy Rogers, 64, Tragically Dies in Southport Shooting Incident

Joy Rogers, a 64-year-old resident of Southport, tragically lost her life in a fatal shooting on September 30, 2025. Rogers had moved to Southport from California about a year ago, seeking a quieter life with her spouse, Lennie. The couple had been drawn to the coastal beauty of the area, which they hoped would provide a peaceful new beginning.

The deadly incident occurred at the American Fish Company, located along the waterfront, and was described by authorities as a meticulously planned attack. Rogers was one of three victims who lost their lives during the event, which also left five individuals injured. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the shooter, identified as 40-year-old Nigel Edge of Oak Island, fired into the crowd while aboard a boat nearby. Edge was apprehended later that evening.

Family members of Rogers remembered her as a deeply loving partner and a devoted mother of three. They also shared that Joy quickly became a cherished part of the Southport community. Known for her kindness, compassion, and strong faith, Rogers had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed and valued.
